Welcome to Mix Makes!

I'm Mick of Mix Makes, I know I spelt it with a X, I think its a subconscious nod to the movie Empire Records from the 90's "Always play with their minds" but it's also because I have a massive mixture of offerings.

Mix Makes is based on the Mornington Peninsula and all products offered have been 3D printed by myself with some help thrown in from my children when they feel like it as it's something we enjoy doing together.

I bought my first 3D printer back in 2017 and have really enjoyed it as a hobby, I believe my favourite part of 3d printing being the expressions of awe and disbelief when showing friends and family what I can create. The thought of being able to spread this awe and wonder with even more people is what has inspired me to create this website.

Often people are apprehensive towards 3d printing for a number of reasons and combating these beliefs is something else I wished to achieve with my offerings.

Due to 3D printing predominantly using plastics there is a belief 3d printing is bad for the environment, however all my models (unless otherwise stated) are printed using an environmentally friendly plastic, PLA (Polylactic Acid) which is naturally derived from renewable organic sources such as sugar cane and corn starch. This makes PLA recyclable, food safe and able to breakdown quicker than most other plastics. I also source as many of my materials as possible from local Australian companies. See the Colour selection page for more information on this.

Durability is often another concern with 3D printing, this often comes down to the individual process used and this is where my 6+ years of experience shows. All my products are printed to a high level of quality and durability meaning less visible layer lines and stronger products. That being said due to the nature of 3D printing I would not recommend any 3d printed products to children under 3 years old.

With that out of the way it is time to check out the good stuff, when deciding on colour I would highly recommend the Colour Selection page for examples and a few things to keep in mind when choosing. I also have plenty more items to add so check back regularly for updates or add yourself to the mailing list below.

You've made it to the bottom, go have a look already!
